carly + mark {married!}

January 23rd was a day of love, laughter, family, friends, good-food and most importantly a day to celebrate Carly and Mark. This couple (and family) is truly the epitome of love.
The minute we arrived Phillip got a flash-forward moment watching Carly’s dad deal with the meaning of the day. Phillip even asked if there were any notes he could take to be prepared for our daughter’s day. Allen’s (dad) reply was “there are no notes when it comes to this day”. I’m sure dealing with overwhelming happiness and a sense of loss for your little girl is a tough pill to digest… so touching though! And Carly’s mom was such a beautiful example of being a “mom”. You definitely got the sense that she was the “den”mom for all of Carly’s friends. (and now officially OUR south Florida mom!)

As always, I was ecstatic when Carly told me that they decided to see each other prior to the ceremony. The sky was beautifully overcast which provided amazing light throughout the entire day!
Take a look but be warned that this is probably the longest blog post in history… Sorry!

Also, we’re probably going to extend the deadline for our wedding photography giveaway. We’ve received several amazingly inspirational submissions but unfortunately we’re already booked on their dates.

Andrew and Julia’s big day was the start of our 2010 weddings! They decided to have a first look prior to the ceremony *we’re BIG fans of this!* which allowed us to capture tons of great photos before the sun went down.
They had their ceremony and reception at the beautiful Ironhorse Country Club in West Palm Beach. Enjoy!

I had the pleasure of working with Irene a few months ago while shooting a boudoir marathon. I love this girl… She had me cracking up the entire shoot!
Needless to say, I was thrilled when it finally came time to shoot their engagement session. Irene and Fern chose to shoot the 1 week that S. Florida decides to dip into the 30’s… go figure! I actually think we got lucky that day with temps in the 50’s but still, the skies were overcast and it was super windy. After shooting for a few hours we decided to call it a day and schedule a reshoot in hopes of having some bright blue skies and warm weather… not happening! Part DEUX was just as windy and the sun only graced us with it’s presence when we were in transition from 1 location to the next. Regardless of the weather, I love how their pictures turned out. Enjoy!

I’m FINALLY getting caught up on all of my post-sessions/wedding work! In an effort to stay caught up I’m only blogging about 1/2 the amount of photos I typically would for a wedding. Bare with me…
This one in particular is long overdue.
Annabel and Joseph experienced some pre-wedding drama due to their venue being shut down (about a week before their wedding) because of an issue with the water filtration system… can you imagine?? I was so impressed with Annabel and her ability to keep calm through the ordeal. To make a long story short, their wedding was moved to the Mandarin Oriental Hotel – not a bad move in my opinion, and was absolutely flawless! She truly looked like a princess!
Annabel and Joseph, thank you both for everything – I can’t wait for your trash-the-dress session!

On a side note, you still have about 2 weeks to submit your entries for winning our wedding photography giveaway. Thank you to all who have already submitted your stories, it’s going to be a tough decision process to select a winner…
We did a mini-fashion shoot after the reception at 1:30am! So fun!

I’ve had some incredibly fun, quirky (in a good way) and creative engagement sessions lately! I love it!
Rose and Eli’s session was no exception! We started the shoot in the Las Olas area of Ft. Lauderdale then headed to the Riverfront area to capture some fun train track and parking garage roof-top shots. By the time our session was ending our light was just about non-existent but we managed to capture some super cute shots that really reflect their personalities.
How gorgeous are they??

daryl + john {engaged!}

I absolutely love when I get to shoot a session with a concept or theme. Daryl and John have the greatest idea ever for their wedding invitation design! I don’t want to spoil the surprise but I feel that I need to preface this shoot by saying that Daryl and John are book lovers and have decided to incorporate their love for books as one of the elements in their wedding. The invitation theme is boy-meets-girl, boy falls in love with girl and the rest is history. Obviously, they have a much better plan to execute this than what I’ve written and I can’t wait to see it!
I should also mention that they share an affinity for art which is why we chose to shoot part of their session in the Design District in Miami. They did a great job scouting specific locations to help tell their story.
On a side note, despite the freezing cold (35º that morning!!) I thoroughly enjoyed spending my morning with two of the most loving people I’ve ever met! Daryl and John, we can’t wait for your wedding in May!!!
I assume that these next few will be incorporated in the invitation design.
I love love love this one! It makes me giggle every time I look at it. :)
This was such a cute idea too!

This shoot was so much fun! Taylor emailed me a week or so prior to our shoot with inspiration ideas and location thoughts. She wanted to shoot somewhere desolate. Simple. I LOVE that!!
After bouncing ideas around we finally agreed that the everglades was the perfect spot for something like this. Why not, right?
Despite the freezing cold (freezing for S. Florida) we couldn’t have asked for better weather!
Taylor and Jeff, we’re so thrilled to be shooting your rustic, backyard wedding in November!

Elly and Carlos had a great idea to start their engagement session by capturing “a day in the life” of them. I’ll be honest, I was a little nervous to attempt pulling off the vision they had but I think it turned out great! The light in their apartment was perfect! After shooting in their home they took me on a journey through downtown Miami. FUN! We wrapped the shoot in a random parking lot covered with astroturf…weird, huh?

I stalked Charlie on Weddingbee (shhh!) many months ago in hopes of booking a wedding near my folks house. I thought it’d be fun to shoot in a new location and besides that we’d have a built-in babysitter! :)
Although I wasn’t expecting to hear back from her, she contacted me and booked us to shoot her wedding! Since we travel to Mobile for the holidays we took advantage of the opportunity and scheduled their engagement session the day after Christmas. Charlie and Brian had some super fun ideas and shooting in historic downtown Mobile was an invigorating change of pace. Such a cute little city!!
Charlie and Brian, we had so much fun with you guys and we look forward to your wedding next September!

Wedding Photography Giveaway… {it’s our turn to give back!!!}

A few months ago we were asked to take part in a wedding donation. Jessica Ayers with Classic Affairs contacted us about a client (“client” for privacy) who had overcome great odds with a rare terminal cancer. We were honored and without hesitation jumped at the opportunity to be included in such a heartfelt, memorable event. Sadly, a few weeks ago I received an email stating that our client’s health took a turn for the worse and that the wedding would be canceled.
We were very saddened by the news, but as the days passed it still weighed on our hearts that we could provide the same donation to a couple in need.
So in honor of our client and to continue the same spirit of their love, we would like to “re-gift” our wedding photography. In a small way we hope that our clients touching story can live on and bless other couples.
Soooooo here’s the scoop. We want to hear from you about couples who have an inspiring story or have overcome great odds and hurdles. Tell us why they should be the ones to have us shoot their wedding for FREE! You have between now and February 10th to submit a couple that you feel deserves it, or even yourself if you feel that you fit the criteria. The winner will be announced February 14th.
The winning couple will receive:
• 8 hours of wedding day coverage
• Online viewing and ordering gallery
• 2 photographers (Phillip and myself)
• Engagement Session
• High resolution digital negatives on DVD

Here are the rules:
• The story must be inspirational and/or about a couple that has overcome great odds (does NOT need to be tragic, just inspirational)
• The couple must have their wedding date and venue set in stone
• We must have the wedding date available
• The wedding must take place somewhere in South Florida
• The nominations must be submitted via email to ashley@1313photography.com
• The email must include a photo of the couple attached to the email submission (we like to put a face with the name)
• The couple must be willing to allow us to put their story on our blog as well as the images from their engagements session and wedding!

We look forward to hearing from you and wish you all a blessed 2010!!
